You have to read this from the Jerusalem Post, Israel’s English language newspaper which is very influential in settler and right-wing circles both in Israel and here.
This is the crowd that goes ballistic (“blood libel!”) every time anyone alleges that there is a powerful Israel lobby that runs U.S. Middle East policy, that it dominates Congress, and that it determines who should lose their jobs for opposing the occupation and Netanyahu.
In this piece, representatives of the lobby that is only a figment of Walt-Mearsheimer’s imagination, assert that no matter what I say, or Media Matters says, I was, in fact, fired for criticizing Netanyahu and his American devotees. They also issue another warning that anyone who follows in my path will be fired too. And, by the way, it’s a “blood libel” to accuse the lobby of preventing free debate on the Middle East.
Also today, the Israel lobby that does not exist ran another piece in the Jerusalem Post calling Tom Friedman, Peter Beinart and me as “wicked” for trying to save Israel from itself.
Israel’s Jewish defamers are the embodiment of the Wicked Son who, had he been in Egypt at the Exodus, would not have been redeemed. What makes this son wicked and unworthy of redemption? Only that he sets himself apart from, and above, the rest of his people.
The stories in the ancient Passover ritual may be unhip for the self-referential yet one can hardly deny their truth and timelessness.
As for today’s wicked sons and daughters, Jews who disparage Israel and their fellow Jews, who have an oversized platform but a minimal following, it is time for the truly pro-Israel Jewish community to turn to another page in the Haggada and chant, “Dayeinu.”
We have had enough.
Not really. So long as any American suggests that Netanyahu’s interests and America’s are not identical, they definitely will not have had enough. As they promise: they will get you.
These are truly good and loyal Americans. Why would anyone imply that they aren’t?
