It’s no secret that Alan Dershowitz has complete contempt for Arabs, Muslims and anyone who criticizes any policy of the Israeli government.
But I had never heard that he lacks sympathy for African-Americans. I mean, he was on the OJ Simpson defense team which indicates he liked one African-American or, perhaps, the publicity and money he could derive from defending him.
But now, for absolutely no reason, Dershowitz has weighed in on the killing of Trayvon Martin. He thinks George Zimmerman is being railroaded. And, to make sure the message was clearly heard, he announced for Zimmerman to the far right media. Yes, the very people now dedicated to racist attacks on the character of Trayvon who, in their collective mind, is the perpetrator of a crime while poor George is a victim.
Is it possible publicity hound Dershowitz will be Zimmerman’s defense lawyer? On the one hand, I hope so. It would reveal to any doubters just what Dershowitz is about. On the other, he would probably get him off. He is well-known for getting guilty defendants off, one who killed only a black teenager should be easy for him.
So maybe the best scenario is what we have now. Dersh comes out as president of the George Zimmerman fan club but some less successful lawyer defends Zimmerman.
We’ll see, Never count Dershowitz out when there is publicity to be had.
