Romney’s Dangerous Israel Foreign Policy Team

2 May

This Alternet piece on Romney’s foreign policy team by Alex Kane is definitely worth a read.

I knew, Dan Senor, who is Romney’s main Israel guy back when he was in college. I was chief-of-staff to Rep. Edward Feighan (D-OH), a liberal. (My predecessor as Feighan’s chief-of-staff was George Stephanopoulos). And Senor was an intern in our office.

Senor was a standard college age liberal Democrat. But, during his internship with Feighan, his politics did a 180. His sister, Wendy, who worked at AIPAC, became engaged to a right-wing Republican named Saul Singer who worked for a conservative Republican senator.  Singer was also vehemently pro-Israel (his brother served in the IDF and died in combat). Dan Senor idolized Saul and adopted his politics.

After Wendy married Saul, they moved to Israel where Wendy became head of AIPAC-Jerusalem and Saul is a Likud writer for the Jerusalem Post.  Wendy remains head of AIPAC in Israel.

Anyone who thinks Dennis Ross was AIPAC ain’t seen nothing yet. Dan Senor is essentially a right-wing Israeli. Ross was just an American sympathizer.

Bottom line: if Romney becomes president, Dan Senor will be handling the Israel portfolio. Doug Feith times ten.
