Charles Krauthammer, whose column today salivates over the prospect of an Israeli attack on Iran, is a truly loathsome character.
Read it yourself although you will find it no different from any Krauthammer column on Israel and Muslims. Today he’s all about the new Israeli coalition which he hopes will, like the May 1967 coalition, be a prelude to war. The man lusts for war. Although he claims (I’ve heard him say this) that he puts Israel above all other concerns, he is always ready to send young Israelis off to die in wars that accomplish his overarching goal of smashing Muslims (smashing is a euphemism).
To be fair, he has no problem with the idea of sending Americans to die in these wars either. On the contrary, he was a major cheerleader for the Iraq war in which 4500 Americans died (along with God knows how many Iraqis).
His only motivation is concern for Israel by which he means concern that Israel is all-powerful and is free to maintain the occupation forever. For him, Palestinians are barely human as his columns about Gaza would attest.
Once I was unlucky enough to have personally witnessed Krauthammer in full bloodlust mode.
It was in 2003. Here is the story as it appeared in the Washington Monthly in 2006, with the introduction: “MJ Rosenberg shares a Charles Krauthammer moment.”
About three years ago, I saw Krauthammer flip out in synagogue on Yom Kippur. The rabbi had offered some timid endorsement of peace — peace essentially on Israel’s terms — but peace anyway. Krauthammer went nuts. He actually started bellowing at the rabbi, from his wheel chair in the aisle. People tried to “shush” him. It was, after all, the holiest day of the year. But Krauthammer kept howling until the rabbi apologized. The man is as arrogant as he is thuggish. Who screams at the rabbi at services? For advocating peace?
That was 8 years ago. I don’t know how many people have been killed in Krauthammer’s wars since then but they number in the tens of thousands, at least.
As his column today indicates, Krauthammer’s feelings about all those dead come right out of the Edith Piaf song.
What a horrible man. :
